CED Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Throughout the 1970's, Will County experienced a recession that resulted in a negative image. A local group of visionary businessmen and women saw the need for an organization committed to attracting new business to Will County and bolster the flagging economy. To counteract the negative economic impact, they hired an experienced economic development executive and recruited investors to fund the fledgling organization. The response from local investors was overwhelming. These individuals became the nucleus of an influential Board of Directors and the CED was born.
Funds to support the CED and its objectives were raised through memberships sought through a 5-year campaign. This broad-based grassroots level support enabled CED to aggressively market Will County benefits internationally, nationally and regionally. Businesses came, grew and flourished. The strategic plan expanded to focus on business retention, quality of life issues, governmental concerns, infrastructure issues, and the ever-present need for funding to support the increasing role CED was playing in Will County.
Today, CED celebrates 25 years of building a better Will County. The organization has, in some way, impacted the lives of every business, every organization, and every resident of this community. Through strong leadership and involvement by key investors, CED has placed Will County in the national spotlight. And, as they have always done, the visionary leaders of this remarkable organization continue to look forward, anticipating needs and planning for a brighter future.
